People believe that copying ideas during the fashion design process is a form of honoring the creator of that idea.

Designer Chan Luu (CL): They justify it like that because they only copy ideas from designers who are already famous and successful.
But a good designer must know how to rely on that inspiration to find ways to come up with personal creations, even based on the success of other designers.
Designer Chloé Dao (CD): A design is called copy when you look at it and immediately recognize it as similar to another design.

Modern technology has made copying other people’s ideas for profit happen extremely quickly.
DK: This is completely true.
We live in a fiercely commercialized society.
CL: I don’t feel happy or proud when my model is copied.
CD: This is a difficult question because designers say that all the ideas have already been worked out.
I think it would be foolish if we copied them.
If my design was copied, I would probably be proud at the time, but then disappointed.

Some Vietnamese designers, including top designer Do Manh Cuong, have fallen into suspicion of copying ideas.
After seeing pictures of Do Manh Cuong’s designs and designs of famous brands that Cuong is suspected of copying, what is your opinion?
DK: I don’t know Do Manh Cuong so I don’t want to comment.
CL: When you can create something of your own, that will be your true talent and mark.
CD: The top of the shirt is undeniably similar to Versace’s.
The point is that all three designers conveyed their personal signature and identity, and all introduced these models in the same season, at the same time.

In the fashion industry, is it possible to overlap ideas?
DK: It is possible for designers to introduce designs that have similarities, but must be introduced at the same time and in the same season.
True fashion must be inspired by cultural, economic and social influences.
CD: Always overlapping and intertwining ideas is the nature of creative people.
I worked at the stores of five famous designers in New York, and at one point, I realized they were not aware that they were influenced by each other’s aesthetics.
